This morning we woke up and in a rush we packed our bags, we had a breakfast consisting of eggs, bacon and pastry. Alec did the radio with Eliza Anderson, after that we got on the bus and drove 3 hours from Rome to Naples. During the trip, we realised that the country side was different to Australia. It was full of green hills and mountains, and lovely villages and open spaces. As we approached Naples  we  saw some breathtaking mountain views. When we arrived in Naples, we all realised the difference it has to Rome. We got to Naples and it was full of old buildings and graffiti; much different to Rome.  We stopped in front of the museum but had to wait till 1 for our tour guide, so we ate lunch in a park. At 1 we went back to the museum to meet our tour guide.
When we got into the museum everyone was intrigued by the amount and detail of statues- some were made of marble and others bronze. The tour guide told us that some of the more risqué statues represented good luck and the opulent lifestyle many of the Romans enjoyed. When we got into the first room we saw a wide range of beautiful mosaics from Pompeii. We were all amazed at their quality and the fact that they actually looked like paintings. After this we had a look at all the amazing items found in Pompeii and Herculaneum such as bronze jugs and glass vases. The tour guide showed us more of the giant statues and sculptures made and unveiled from the two cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum and we were able to see how nice even the original looked and gain a sense of their views on life and relationships. Afterwards we said  thanks and goodbye to the tour guide for giving us an exciting tour of the whole museum.
This evening, we had a beautiful dinner at Toto Restaurant – pasta with tomatoes and olives, pork with chips and wine sauce and profiteroles for dessert. Some of us also enjoyed a second dessert of Gelato which is really too hard to resist.
Looking forward to visiting the ancient ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum tomorrow. We also went for a night time walk around the bay and it was magical to see the city lights sparkling over the ocean.
